Details

The Upper Newport Bay estuary is available to 200 species of migratory and shorebirds including the endangered California least tern and is one of the top birding sites in the country.

Birds

Endangered Species: Light-footed clapper rail, California least tern, Brown pelican, Peregrine falcon, Belding’s savannah sparrow, Coastal California gnatcatcher. More Birds: Avocets, Coots, Crows, Blackbirds, Pelicans, Hummingbirds, Swallows, Owls, Terns, Doves, Hawks, Ducks, Grebes, Gulls, Kingbirds, Meadowlarks, Sparrows, Kites, Swifts, Finch, Plovers, Gnatcatchers, Herons, Mockingbirds.

Note

Bird listings may include resident and migratory birds and common and rare sightings.
