Details
Established in 1937 to provide wintering habitat for migratory birds, the Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge is one of the more biologically significant wetland areas of the Pecos River watershed system. The Refuge consists of numerous seeps and free-flowing springs, oxbow lakes, marshes and shallow water impoundments, water-filled sinkholes, and Bitter lake. The refuge is located nine miles northeast of Roswell. Activities include hiking, hunting, fishing, bicycling, and a Dragonfly festival.
Bird listings may include resident and migratory birds and common and rare sightings.
